A few members of the LIVESTRONG Army are gearing up to run the NYC Marathon this year. These six runners, who range in age from 21 to 60, are participating in the marathon to raise awareness about this deadly disease, while honoring their friends, family and even their own battles with cancer.
They are also members on LIVESTRONG.com and you can read their stories, becomes friends with them, and track their progress from now until race day.

I was on the LAF team for the NYC Marathon and was removed from the team, because I’m a disabled athlete and you couldn’t get me in even after I was told I was on the team…..However, I didn’t give up(smile), I was one of the Top 10 for your Do Dare Contest and I found a team, the Achilles Team in NYC which welcomed me on their team for disabled athletes…Just like with my Cancer, I didn’t give up and I won’t give up till I see you at the finish line…This will be my first marathon as a disabled athlete…prior to Cancer I ran 12, the last being the NYC 2005…Can you say COMEBACK?? Good luck LAF Team!
I’ll see you at the finish..and who knows maybe next year, you will take a disabled cancer survivor on your team (smile)..
All the best,
Hope
Last Sunday, October 19, I ran a 6 hour ultra and finished third with nearly 40 miles. On wednesday I was diagnosed with a testicular “mass”,which seems like code for cancer. This morning, Sunday Oct. 26, trined with a buddy who is going to run the 24 hour championships next month and had a great run. Thurday, I am having surgery to remove this “mass”. Can you say whirlwind? I just turned thirty-nine, getting older is hard. Haha. Tim
