Summit Photos – Final Day

The final day of the Summit was an incredibly moving experience. I would have to say the one part that touched me more than anything this weekend was when Jen Hoeger, who was a track leader for Advocacy Grey, took the stage. The entire crowd started chanting “I KNOW JACK! I KNOW JACK!”. It was simply amazing. i would be willing to bet there wasn’t a dry eye in the entire audience. If you too would like to know jack, check out our post from April.

Overall the experience was incredible. There are not enough adjectives to even begin to explain…

Doug Thanks LIVESTRONG Summit Delegates and Volunteers

Doug wanted to send a quick thank you to all that participated in the 2008 LIVESTRONG Summit. I am working on the last batch of photos that will be shared later today. Hopefully everyone was able to travel safely home. We are happy to be back in Austin and getting back to work.

Photos from Day 3

Now that the volunteer picnic is over, we can officially say that the 2008 LIVESTRONG Summit has come to close. I know I said it before, but I just wanted to reiterate how incredible the entire Summit experience has been.

Yesterday morning I was fortunate enough to go along with Lance and Doug as they popped into several of the classes going on. While in the Community Grants track, Rebecca Esparza, the local army leader from Corpus Christi, Texas, was right in the middle of a presentation, when Lance dropped by for a visit. It was a life long dream of hers…

Summit Final Day

The Summit just ended and all the delegates are on their way back to the airport and hometowns. It has been an incredible week and I am so appreciative to all the people that I have met, and all the stories that were shared. I am working on a few blogs when I get some time to be able to sit down and write them. This week has been powerfully moving.

Liz, our great photographer just gave me a batch of photos, that I will have up shortly, but before I posted them, I wanted to share a note that Doug…

Summit Day 4

Yesterday was a great day for all the delegates. Stefanie Spielman gave a very emotional and inspiring keynote about her cancer story. This morning we are having yet another great set of speakers. From The Ohio State University, Dr. E. Gordon Gee, from CNN, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and from U.S. News and World Report, Dr. Bernadine Healy.

In the tracks yesterday Doug was talking about what an incredible person Dr. Gee is. Especially with the tragedy that his family has gone through over the last two weeks. More can be found about his family here.

Again today’s session will be streamed for…

Photos from Day 2

Just wanted to share a few photos from Day two of the Summit. The last photo includes a few of us jammed into a van so we could make it back to the hotel in time. It has been a great day thus far today, and we are about to head to the Columbus Zoo here in a bit.

I wanted to share one funny story from today. A few of us traveled with Lance to some of the track break out sessions. In one of the classrooms, Lance leaned over to Doug and said, “This is the closest I have…

Summit Day 3

Good morning from day three. Last nights keynote by Dr. Harold Freeman, was very inspiring and touching. He shared with us that he wanted to become a Major in the LIVESTRONG Army. Lance was eager to have him join along in the fight.

This morning’s keynote will be from Stefanie Spielman. I am looking forward to how cancer has touched her life. Today will be yet another busy day, with tracks running concurrently. There will be no keynote this evening, as we are all headed to the zoo for a group dinner.

Hopefully I will be able to share some stories from today’s…

Summit Day 2

Well we are half way through the first day and this being my first Summit, it has been quite the experience. This morning Dr. Carmona gave a very inspiring and entertaining speech outlining how he has kept up with Lance, and a very broad overview of his and the three other Surgeons General plan for a National Call to Action. Lance also was quick to give everyone there a quick grammar lesson on Surgeons General as opposed to Surgeon Generals.

The energy level was high, and everyone was eager to get into tracks and begin learning. I spent the morning bouncing…

Summit Day 2

What a great scene last night from the Presidential Town Hall. The entire Mershon Auditorium was packed with everyone wearing “Vote Yellow” T-shirts. A lot of hard work went into the town hall, and it was great to be able to be a part of it last night. Hopefully people were able to catch the live stream, but unfortunately if you missed it, we do not have the video available.

This morning at 8:30am EST, Dr. Richard Carmona, 17th Surgeon General of the United States, 2002-2006, will be addressing the LIVESTRONG Summit. Care to see what he has to say? The live…
