the past days at work the a/c has been out. it has been hotter than anything imaginable in here. i guess you take things for granted when you have them. i show up to work today and no one is here and there is a note on the door. basically stating its too hot…we went home. thanx guys. ill just stay up here and sweat it out like i have done seven other times. yeah i said seven. it gets hotter in the office than it is outside. we have like 15 computers and three huge printers to add to the heat. needless to say it is rather warm in here.

in other news i will be traveling to the beach this weekend. gonna swing by the fork in austin before heading out to good ol port a. its been awhile since i have been down there and i am looking forward to it. fish has the jet ski fueled up and i got the beer on ice. hopefully i will be able to take some photos this weekend and post them here. until then enjoy your a/c.

got a little sunburned yesterday. tried to tell larry the cable guy a joke. hung out with django. waited over an hour for a hamburger. realized life backstage is so much better than out front with all the commoners. had the cutest waitress at the waffle house last nite at 130. slept like a champ. all in all…this fourth rocked. did yours?

ok lets try and get through the fifth and final job that i would rather be doing instead of my current job. a few people have guessed, and they have been wrong. surprisingly it has nothing to do with design. design and art is personal to me, and to make a living trying to sell your art just takes away from the beauty of the piece. i learned this while working at the newspaper. no matter how much you like something, someone will say its crap. that is why i do design and photographs for myself.

i guess i should mention other things that i would like to do that just didnt make the top five yet are still high on the list. teaching, sports columnist, bar owner, songwriter, personal assistant to a musician…. they all rank. but the main thing i would want to do over anything else would be a travel writer/photographer. i would love to be able to travel the world and write about what i see and what i do. inform people of the cool places to go. let everyone know about this really hip cafe in the south of france. or this jumping pub in northern ireland. to be able to have free reign and write solely about my experiences and photograph the things i see and the people i meet, would be incredible. i have applied for several jobs with Frommers, a travel industry book and magazine giant. they are based out of new jersey and if i had to relocate to that shit hole of a state, and yes i can say that i have been there, i would do it in a hearbeat. if i had to start at the bottom writing articles about local pizza joints and having to go to the bing, i would do it without trepidation. i wouldnt care too much for working for national geographic cause i have no desire to end up in somalia or saudi. i would rather focus on eurpoean travel destinations and maybe bounce around russia and such.

so if you look at the list, there is a strong creative background, but i would want to do it on my terms. which goes back to what i was saying, creating for others steals from the identity you create when you are doing it for yourself. so there is my list. now make a list for yourself and if you feel like it, email it to me. i would be interested in what others would rather do instead of their current 9-5.

1. travel writer/photographer
2. fireman
3. texas monthly photographer
4. chef
5. professional basketball player

ps…i will be traveling to willies picnic tomorrow in fort worth. needless to say i have backstage passes and will be shooting photos for most of the day. this should be one of the better fourths i have celebrated in a long time. hope everyone has a kick ass fourth and dont forget the reason we are able to celebrate our independence.
